Lacrosse beats Mankato in playoff opener

The Hudson Area Lacrosse Association's boys' varsity club team defeated Mankato, 19-2, in its first round playoff game as nine different players scored goals and 17 of the 19 goals coming off assists.

Hudson scored nine unanswered goals in the first quarter. Mankato scored to start the second quarter, but then Hudson scored three more to end the first half with a 12-1 lead

In the third quarter Hudson scored five goals to the enthusiastic cheers of the Hudson boys U11 team, which stopped practice early to watch the varsity team. The Raiders led 17-1 after three quarters.

A Mankato player was ejected from the game at the beginning of the fourth quarter for repeatedly punching a Hudson player in the head. When play resumed, Hudson scored one more goal to go up 18-1. Each team tacked on one more goal to make the final 19-2.

Taren Motte had six goals and three assists in the victory, while Adam Lipps had three goals and one assist and Brandon Schwartz had two goals and four assists. McKay Potter contributed two goals and three assists, Henrik Wiesemeyer had two goals and two assists and Joey Hernandez and Will Reece each had one goal and one assist. Leo Murray and Rusty Selliris scored a goal apiece, and Zack Gapinski and Cameron Anunson each had one assist to round out Hudson's scoring.

Hudson will play the winner of the game between St. Cloud and Fargo in the second round of the playoffs.
