River Falls, Hudson advance to golf sectional

River Falls finished third and Hudson placed fourth to keep their seasons alive at the WIAA Division 1 Girls Golf Regional in New Richmond Wednesday.

The Wildcats posted team score of 360 while Hudson finished at 402. Eau Claire North won the regional title with 347 and host New Richmond took second with 351. All four teams advance to the Sectional tournament Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Forest Hills Golf Course in La Crosse.

Senior Rachael Meyer paced River Falls with a fifth place score of 84. Senior Hallie Hauer finished eighth with an 89 and junior Sydney Brunholzl gave the Wildcats three of the top ten spots with a 91 while senior Maddie Wagner finished with 96. New Richmond’s Alex Wheeler took first with a round of 78.

Senior Jill Wanner and junior Maggie Lewis each carded rounds of 94 to lead Hudson while sophomore Lucy Stiles added a 101 and freshman Lexi Jonas finished with 107. The Raiders finished nine strokes ahead of fifth place Rice Lake.

Eau Claire North, New Richmond, River Falls and Hudson will join Tomah (387), Marshfield (387), Holmen (397) and Stevens Point (406) at Tuesday’s sectional tournament in La Crosse. Those four teams advanced out of the Stevens Point Regional held at the Stevens Point Country Club.

The top two teams, and the top three individuals who are not members of qualifying teams, at the La Crosse Sectional will qualify for the WIAA State Golf Championships Oct. 14-15 at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison.
