Superior tops Hudson in hockey playoffs

The Raider boys’ hockey team saw its season come to an end with a 7-3 loss to Superior in a WIAA sectional semifinal Tuesday night, Feb. 25, in Hudson.

The fourth-seeded Spartans advance to ace No. 2 New Richmond in the sectional final this Saturday, March 1, at 2 p.m. in Amery while Hudson’s season comes to an end with a record of 19-4-2.

The two teams combined for six goals in a first period that saw Superior jump out to a 4-2 lead. Adam Lipps scored Hudson’s first goal at the 5:15 mark to tie the score, 1-1 and Parker Shefveland made it a 2-2 game at the 9:31 mark but Superior scored just 23 seconds later to take the lead for good.

Charlie Singerhouse scored an unassisted power play goal 5:23 into the third period to make the score 6-3. The Spartans added an empty-net goal with 1:50 remaining to make the final 7-3.
