Hudson to open WBA playoffs in Stanley

The Hudson River Rats might have to beat a pair of Merchants to get to the finals of the Wisconsin Baseball Association playoffs this season.

The Rats, who finished in a three-way tie for second place in the St. Croix Valley Baseball League, earned a No. 2 seed in its four-team bracket and will open the WBA playoffs at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, in Stanley against the Everest Merchants. If they win they will face either the top-seeded Osseo Merchants or the No. 4 Wausau River Hawks at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13. The winner of that game will advance to the eight-team WBA championship weekend Aug. 18-20 in Viroqua.

Hudson finished the regular season 11-5 in the SCVBL, 14-6 overall. The Everest Merchants went 8-4 in Dairyland League play, tied for fourth place, while the Osseo Merchants won the Chippewa River Baseball League with a record of 21-1. Hudson lost to Osseo in the first round of last year's WBA playoffs.

Hudson is one of six SCVBL teams competing in the 32-team WBA postseason tournament this weekend and one of two teams in Stanley. The River Falls Fighting Fish will also be in Stanley to take on the Medford Moon Dogs at noon Saturday, Aug. 12.

The Osceola Braves and Menomonie Eagle are both in Hallie with the Braves opening play at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, against the La Crescent Cardinals and the Eagles facing the Eau Claire Bears at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12.

The Prescott Pirates will be in Rib Lake to take on the Interwald Woodticks at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, while the Plum City Blues will play the Chaseburg-Coon Valley Blues at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, in Haugen.
