North eliminates Raider girls from WIAA tournament

The Hudson girls basketball team took an early exit from the WIAA tournament, bowing 53-40 to Eau Claire North in a Feb. 26 opening-round game at Eau Claire.

The Raider girls went down fighting, however, and earned compliments from their opponents in the post-game interviews.

Hudson was a tough opponent, North's Hannah Quilling told WQOW-TV from Eau Claire.

Quilling, the Huskies' star senior guard, was pretty rugged herself. She scored a game-high 21 points.

The Huskies outscored the Raiders by five points in each of the first two quarters for a 30-20 lead at halftime. The Raiders didn't go away in the second half, but were never able to seriously threaten the Huskies' lead.

Sophomore post Kaitlyn Haag led Hudson in scoring with 14 points, lending hope for a better record for the Raiders' next season.

The Raiders finished the 2007-08 season 4-17 overall and 1-11 in the Big Rivers Conference. It was their second straight 1-11 season in the Big Rivers.

Senior post Amy Frye capped off an excellent four years with the Raiders with 12 points against the Huskies.

The game was also the last in a Raider uniform for Emily Rose (six points), Chelsey Bouzard (three points), Kristen Feisel (two points), Sammy Peterson, Rachel Benzinger, Sarah Hanson and Haley Fletcher.

The 2007-08 team was comprised of eight seniors, three juniors (Katie Ecker, Katie Ryan and Molly Krohn) and one sophomore (Haag).

Eau Claire North advanced to the tournament sectional with a 47-42 defeat of Chippewa Falls. The Huskies face Eau Claire Memorial in a sectional semifinal game Friday evening.
