Wrestlers have perfect season

The Raider wrestlers finished the regular season in grand style Saturday, taking first at the West Salem-Bangor dual meet wrestling tournament by going 5-0.

For the second consecutive year, Hudson finished the regular season with a perfect 19-0 record.

They also won the Big Rivers Conference for the fourth straight season and climbed to a No. 5 ranking in the state of Wisconsin.

First up this past week, Hudson had to beat Eau Claire Memorial in order to win the BRC outright. The Raiders had already clinched a share of the title last week.

Hudson easily out-distanced the Old Abes by the score of 60-6, winning 13 of the 14 matches. Gordon Johnson won the biggest match of the night when he defeated Jesse Goss 6-2. Goss held a 26-4 record and is ranked as honorable mention in the state.

On Saturday, Hudson first shutout Onalaska 75-0 before beating North Crawford-Seneca 69-6.

The third round had Hudson winning 60-15 over Cashton. In the fourth, Hudson defeated West Salem-Bangor 77-4 and finally in the last round beat Neillsville 47-18.

Seven Raiders went 5-0 on the day: Jordan Baumgartner at 103 pounds, Tanner Owens at 112, Alex Rogers at 145, Kyle Crain at 152, Nick Larson at 160, Art Vinzant at 171 and Cole Tobin at 285.

Next up for the Raiders is the Big Rivers-Dunn St. Croix Challenge on Saturday, Feb. 7 in Menomonie. Hudson has won this 12-team event the last two seasons.
