Volleyball team to feature a host of new faces

The Raider volleyball team opens the season this week, led by four returning lettwerwinners and a host of new faces looking to fill the void left by the graduation of eight seniors from last year's squad.

The Raiders hosted the Hudson Quad on Tuesday and will jump right into Big Rivers Conference competition Thursday (Sept. 3) when they visit Eau Claire Memorial. They host Menomonie Tuesday, Sept. 8, visit Ellsworth Thursday, Sept. 10, and host the Raider Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 12.

Seniors Natalie Horsman and Kirsten Iverson and juniors Britni Eberlin and Amber Saathoff return from last year's squad and will be joined on the court this season by seniors Megan Kelly, Elizabeth Gagliardi, Kristen Briggs, Kari Pelzel and Ashlyn Ferron, junior Jamie Lindstrom and sophomores Stephanie Little and Elle Schwartz.

Head coach Dennis Saathoff said the girls have been working hard to prepare for the season.

"We graduated eight girls last year who had significant playing time so we have a lot of holes to fill," he said. "This team has been progressing nicely in practice, and we are looking forward to good things from them."

The team's varsity home match against Menomonie Sept. 8 begins at 7:15 p.m. with lower level matches starting at 5:45. The Raider Invitational Sept. 10 will start at 10 a.m.
