Wrestlers too much for Eau Claire North

The Raider wrestling team tuned up for its Big Rivers Conference showdown with Chippewa Falls this Thursday by dominating Eau Claire North in a 70-3 victory last Thursday at the high school gym.

Hudson posted nine pins in the win to improve to 5-0 in conference duals. Chippewa Falls is also undefeated and the two teams will square off Thursday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. in Chippewa Falls with the regular season conference title on the line.

This is the second year in a row Hudson and Chippewa Falls both take undefeated records into their dual match. The Raiders won last year by three points.

Against Eau Claire North last Thursday, Nick Larson got things going for the Raiders by pinning Eau Claire North's John Poppe in 2:32 in the opening match at 160 pounds. Derek Schindler followed with a 7-3 decision over James Hennick before Hudson collected seven straight pins to open up a 51-0 lead.

Art Vinzant needed just 54 seconds to pin Bryxen Dokkestul at 189 pounds and Nathan Eby pinned Damon Olson in 2:46 at 215 before heavyweight Clayton Truhler took just 1:03 to beat Brady Dokkestul.

Jordan Baumgartner kept things going by pinning Jackson Forseth in 3:18 at 103 pounds and Nic Nelson pinned Victor Bennett in 1:27 at 112 before Zach Stillwell defeated Mike Coyle in 3:43 at 119.

Gordon Johnson made it seven straight pins for the Raiders by defeating Andy Stackouse in 3:48.

Eau Claire North picked up its only points of the night with a decision at 130 pounds before the Raiders closed with a 10-2 major decision by Koyla Hawksford over Jordan Leek at 135, a pin by Ryan Smith over Tim Baker at 5:17 at 140, a forfeit by the Huskies at 145, and a 6-3 decision by Dima Hawksford over Deion Sonsalla at 152.

Following Thursday's BRC showdown at Chippewa Falls, the Raiders will compete in the Shell Lake Invitational Saturday, Jan. 23.
