Wurm leads Big River Conference golfers

Defending Big Rivers Conference Player of the Year Cassie Wurm of Hudson moved closer to earning her second straight POY honor by finishing second at a BRC mini meet Monday at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club in Eau Claire.

Wurm had won three straight BRC meets before Monday's second place finish. With one regular season meet remaining this Thursday, Sept. 15, at Turtleback Golf Course in Rice Lake, Wurm holds a six-point lead over River Falls' Hale Hauer in the individual conference standings.

The BRC Tournament is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the Hudson Golf Club.

Wurm carded a score of 43 Monday at Hillcrest to tie River Falls' Kacey Simone for second place. Hauer took first with an even-par score of 36.

River Falls took first place with a total score of 172 to open up a six-point lead in the regular season conference team standings. Hudson, aided by a fifth place score of 45 from Jill Wanner, was second with 183 and is in third place in the conference standings, one point behind Rice Lake.

Last Tuesday Wurm fired a 38 at Mill Run Country Club in Eau Claire to win her third straight BRC mini meet.

Wanner added a score of 48 and Alex Nelson finished with a 53 while Hayley Uzpen had 54. The Raiders finished fourth with a team score of 193.
