Kristin Pelzel finishes ahead of men in Saint Patrick's 5K

Kristin Pelzel did her gender proud in the St. Patrick Church's Fall Festival 5K footrace run Saturday morning. The young Hudson woman topped the field of 66 runners, completing the 3.1-mile course in 18 minutes, 55 seconds.

The top male, Nathan Madlung of Roberts, finished two minutes and 10 seconds behind Pelzel with a time of 21:05.

The second- and third-place women were Ella Young, 24:16, and Taren Weyer, 24:17. Heidi Young came in fourth among the women with a time of 24:18.

Shane Johnson placed second among the men with a time of 21:13. Isaac Young was third at 22:30, and Rev. John Gerritts, fourth at 22:45.

Brian Dahl of Hudson took top honors in the 10-kilometer race with a time of 39:18. He was followed by Shawn Schmidtknecht at 41:15 and David Bogenhagen at 43:13.

Susan Malecha of Hudson was the fastest female in the 10K with a time of 48:26.

Just one other woman, Karin Schroeder, competed in the 10K. Her time was 52:16.

A total of 15 runners completed the race.
