Raiders advance to golf sectional in LaCrosse

Hudson senior Cassie Wurm earned medalist honors with a score of 76 to lead the Raiders to a third place team finish at the WIAA Division 1 Golf Regional last Wednesday, Sept. 28 at Turtleback Golf Course in Rice Lake.

River Falls won the team title with a total score of 341 followed by New Richmond with 346, Hudson with 374 and Rice Lake with 387. All four teams move on to the WIAA Sectional this Wednesday, Oct. 5, at Forest Hills Golf Course in La Crosse.

Wurm fired an even-par 35 on the front nine at Turtleback on her way to winning the individual regional title by seven strokes over Alex Wheeler and Leah Bauer of New Richmond and Mari Pechacek of River Falls, who tied for second with 83 each.

Juniors Hayley Uzpen and Lindsey Frank posted scores of 99 each and sophomore Jill Wanner came in with 100 to account for the Raiders' third-place team score of 374.

The top four teams from the Rice Lake Regional will be joined by the top four finishers from the Sparta Regional -- Tomah, Holmen, Onalaska and La Crosse Central/Logan at the La Crosse Sectional. Tomah won the Sparta Regional with a score of 365.
