After improving to 2-0 with a 19-1 rout of Northfield, Minn., last Monday, April 23, the Hudson Area Lacrosse Association's varsity boys' team dropped a 12-4 decision to Delano, Minn., Friday, April 27, for its first loss of the season.

Ten Hudson players scored goals at Northfield in the team's 19-1 win last Monday.

"It's good to be on the winning side of a score like that," Hudson coach Rich Grinstead said. "When we started out with our 9/10 team, we lost by scores like that."

Northfield's lacrosse program is relatively new, and this is Northfield's first year with a varsity team.

Hudson scored eight goals in the first quarter, including a side-arm rocket by McKay Potter and a behind-the-back shot by Carter Bewley. Hudson added five goals in the second quarter to take a 13-0 halftime lead.

Hudson scoring was led by Taren Motte with four goals and two assists and Carter Bewley with three goals and three assists. Other scorers included Matt Weseli with one goal, Connor Kindom with two, Antonio Blomquist with one, McKay Potter with three, Luke Ousdigian with two goals and two assists, Brandon Schwartz with three goals and two assists, Adam Lipps with one goal, James Fall with two assists and Cameron Anunson with one assist.

Hudson committed no penalties in the game and allowed just two shots on goal.

Friday against Delano, Hudson trailed 5-3 at halftime but Delano dominated the second half and remained undefeated with a 12-4 victory.

Queener scored a pair of first-half goals and Bewley added a goal to make it a 4-3 game late in the first half. Delano scored once more to end the half with a 5-3 lead.

The score could have been very different if Hudson had managed to capitalize on numerous first-half scoring opportunities. Hudson couldn't seem to put the ball in the net, with several near-misses and at least four shots off of the pipe.

The third quarter opened with an errant pass by Hudson's goalie to a Delano attack man who easily put it into the empty net. It was the start of a five-goal scoring run which put Delano ahead 10-3 early in the fourth quarter.

Motte accounted for Hudson's final goal of the game.

With a record of 2-1, Hudson is a half-game behind Varsity East conference leader North St. Paul in the Minnesota Boys Scholastic Lacrosse Association standings. Undefeated Delano leads the Varsity West conference at 3-0.
