Herink named to NABC All-District team

UWRF senior forward Alex Herink of Hudson has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III Central Region All-District second team.

The honor is the latest for the 6-foot, 7-inch post player, who was named to the All-WIAC First Team for the second straight season Feb. 28. He earned NABC All-American honors in 2016-17 and was the NABC Central Region Player of the Year and WIAC Player of the Year as a junior after transferring to UWRF from Minnesota State University-Mankato.

Herink led the Falcons in scoring this season with an average of 15.4 points per game while averaging 6.4 rebounds, fifth best in the conference.

In his two-year career at UWRF, Herink scored 878 points (15.67 per game), made 82 three-pointers, grabbed 343 rebounds and made 216 free throws. He shot a career 82 percent from the free throw line.

Bob Burrows has been sports editor at the River Falls Journal since 1996 and at the Hudson Star-Observer since 2009. Prior to joining the Journal, Burrows served as sports editor with Ledger Publications in Balsam Lake, Wis. A native of Bayonne, N.J. and a U.S. Navy veteran, Burrows attended Marquette University before completing his studies at UW-River Falls in 1992.
