Hudson gymnasts are state bound

The Hudson gymnastics team earned a return trip to Wisconsin Rapids for the WIAA State Tournament after qualifying with a second place team finish at the Division 1 sectional meet at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School Saturday, Feb. 24.

The entire Raider team will compete in the state team tournament this Friday, March 2, at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln while senior Taylor Owens and freshmen Paige Hillman and Caroline Erickson will compete in the state individual tournament the next day at the same site.

Hudson finished with a second place score of 136.85 last Saturday, just behind sectional champion Eau Claire's 136.925, to join Eau Claire in the 10-team Division 1 field this Friday at the state meet. Owens qualified for Saturday's individual competition in the vault and Erickson will compete on the floor and bars while Hillman earned spots in the vault, floor, bars and all-around.

Hillman claimed sectional titles on the bars and in the vault with scores of 9.2 and 9.0, respectively. She also took third on the floor with a score of 9.2 and added a score of 8.5 on the balance beam to finish second in the all-around competition with a total of 35.9.

Erickson was second in the floor routine with a score of 9.225 and earned the fifth and final qualifying spot on bars with a score of 8.45 while Owens placed second behind Hillman in the vault with a score of 8.95.

The WIAA State Team Tournament gets underway at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 2, at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School while the individual competition is set for Saturday, March 3, beginning at 11:15 a.m.
