Raiders fall in state football semifinals

Defending state champion Hartland Arrowhead scored 38 unanswered points to defeat Hudson, 38-14, in a WIAA Division 1 football semifinal game Friday night in Stevens Point.

It’s the second straight season Hartland Arrowhead has defeated Hudson in the state semifinals.

The Raiders took the opening kickoff and marched 80 yards in 12 plays to take a 7-0 lead on a 2-yard touchdown run by Wade Malecha and Kristian Bell’s extra point.

Arrowhead answered with a 31 yard field goal, then turned a pair of second quarter Raider turnovers into touchdowns on back-to-back possessions to take a 17-7 halftime lead.

The Warhawks led 31-7 after three and extended their lead to 38-7 early in the fourth quarter before the Raiders got a late touchdown pass from Landry Otten to Alex Herink to make the final 38-14.

Hudson’s season comes to an end with a record of 11-2 wile Arrowhead improved to 12-1 and will take on Franklin in the WIAA Division 1 title game Friday, Nov. 22 at 4 p.m. at Camp Randall in Madison. Franklin defeated Mukwonago, 35-8, in the other semifinal game in Kettle Moraine.
