Boys hockey blanks Warriors

Cole Danielson

Cole Danielson netted a natural hat trick and Grady Gornick, Ben Lundeen, Jack Flattum and Carter Maack all had multiple point nights as the top-ranked Raider boys hockey team improved to 7-0 with a 5-0 victory at Rice Lake Tuesday, Dec. 19.

Alex Cohen stopped all 10 shots to record his second shutout of the season as the Raiders outshot the Warriors, 43-10.

Hudson took a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals 26 seconds apart late in the first period.

Aaron Squires got things going at the 14:29 mark, assisted by Gornick and Jordan Halverson, before Danielson followed 26 seconds later with an assist from Lundeen.

Danielson's second goal of the game came 1:57 into the second period with Flattum and Lundeen earning assists before he completed his hat trick at the 11-minute mark with an assist from Maack.

Gornick scored the only goal of the third period, at the 4:55 mark, assisted by Flattum and Maack, to make the final 5-0.

Just one penalty was issued in the game—a cross checking call against Rice Lake with four minutes remaining in the second period.

The Raiders opened up Schwan's Cup play Tuesday, Dec. 26, against St. Paul Academy at the Schwan's Super Rink in Blaine. They will play either Rogers or Mankato East Wednesday, Dec. 27 with championship and consolation games Thursday, Dec. 28. First round matchups on the other side of the bracket feature Spring Lake Park against Bloomington Kennedy and Minnehaha Academy against Northfield.

Following the Schwan's Cup the Raiders will host a showdown of the top two teams in the state when Eau Claire Memorial visits Gornick Arena Thursday, Jan. 4, for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
