Two local athletes were the men's and women's champions of the annual Croixathlon, held at YMCA Camp St. Croix on June 23.

Dave Holden of North Hudson was the overall champion of the one-third mile swim, 15.6 mile bike, and three mile trail run with a total time of 1 hour, 12 minutes and 49 seconds.

Cheryl Barker of Hudson was the women's champion with a time of 1:31:04. Both Holden and Barker are members of the locally based Wild River Triathlon Club, which had 24 of its members competing. A cool, overcast and windless morning provided perfect conditions for about 150 men and women of all ages and abilities to compete in the race. Proceeds from this event go toward the camp and its programs.

This is the first time that both the men's and women's champion have come from the Hudson area. It is also the first time that Wild River Triathlon Club members have won both the men's and women's in the same event. Other Hudson residents from the club who finished the Croixathlon were: Tim Huntley, Trent Johnson, Nate Edin, Carolyn Milbrath, Wally Milbrath, Megan Westhoff, Kirk Jacobson and Jake Pittman.

Wild River Triathlon Club is a local non-profit club for athletes of all abilities, who want to socialize, train, learn, and compete together in multi-sport racing. For more information about the club go to
