Eight Hudson Raider shooting team members traveled to Sturgeon Bay June 10 to participate in the 2018 Wisconsin State Match for the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP).
Approximately 65 shooters from around the state participated in the event using .22 rifles, .22 rimfire handguns and/or centerfire handguns, shooting at steel plates in a variety of configurations. All courses of fire were timed events and were conducted in a series of five strings with the lowest score discarded.
Hudson's non-collegiate open squad placed second in optics rifle and consisted of Jordan Persinger with a time of 44.07 seconds, Jake McCorkle with 46.53, Kiera Wood with 48.77 and Nathan Teufer with 53.21. This squad also took fourth in the rimfire pistol and fifth in the iron sight rifle events.
The senior division squad came in fourth in the rimfire pistol event and consisted of Brandon Armstrong, Trevor Cochrane, Garrett Wood and Caitlin Cravens. This squad also placed eighth in both the iron sight rifle and optics rifle events.
Placing in the top ten as individuals for the men were McCorkel, sixth in rimfire pistol, and Persinger, 10th in optics. And for the ladies, Wood was fifth in optics rifle and seventh in iron sight rifle and Cravens was ninth in optics rifle and 10th in rimfire pistol.
Kiera Wood was also the recipient of a $500 scholarship from the 2018 Scholastic Action Shooting Program. Athletes graduating from high school and enrolling in college in 2018 were eligible to apply. Awards were based on SCTP/SASP participation, academics, need, essays and other factors. The scholarships were funded by shooting industry sponsors, as well as supporters and donors who provide the SCTP with funds through national fundraising banquets. Wood's sponsor for this scholarship was Glock.
