Nelson All-American at UW-L

Maddie Nelson

University of Wisconsin-La Crosse freshman Maddie Nelson of Hudson earned All-American honors with a seventh place finish in the triple jump at the 2018 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Indoor Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex on the campus of Birmingham-Southern College in Alabama Saturday, March 11.

Nelson earned her first All-American honor with a leap of 38-feet, 7.75-inches. She also competed in Friday's long jump competition, placing 14th with a distance of 17-8.25 while former Raider and UW-La Crosse student Sadie Kroll placed 11th in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 9 minutes, 54.75 seconds.

Nelson and Kroll helped the Eagle women win their sixth straight WIAC Indoor Championship Feb. 23-24 at UW-Stevens Point's Multi-Activity Center. The Eagles finished with 201.5 team points while UW-Eau Claire was second with 153.5 and UW-Oshkosh third with 89.0.

Kroll won the conference title in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:01.32, while Nelson was fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 37-9.5 and seventh in the long jump with a leap of 17-6.75.

Both former Raiders earned earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Midwest Region honors for the 2018 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field season.
