The North Hudson Village Board listened to a report about the Hudson Co-op Grocery store plan, and accomplished some fairly routine business during a short meeting Tuesday, July 7 Don Kirkpatrick, board president of the Hudson Co-op Grocery group, told the board that he became interested in the project when there was no longer a grocery store in downtown Hudson. “We incorporated in May 2012 and we recently hit a milestone with $300 owners,” Kirkpatrick said.
As we all know – not all television shows succeed. I was reminded of that when I was glancing through a Star-Observer from July 12, 1990. The front page story was about Tim Conway and Henry Winkler visiting Hudson for the taping of segment for a “new” ABC television show titled “Tim Conway’s Funny America.” The show was short-lived, airing only six weeks from July 29 to Sept. 2, 1990. ABC was seeking a compatible series to insert in its Sunday evening lineup after its hit America’s Funniest Home Videos show.

O’Connell Family Funeral Home was one of the stops on the first-ever Midwest EMS Memorial Bike Ride held Thursday, July 2. The ride was a one-day special bicycling event to memorialize and celebrate the lives of those EMS providers who died while serving their community. The late Dan O’Connell was a former EMT and part of the family funeral home business. Funeral director O’Connell and intern James Ellison were shot and killed in the funeral home on Feb. 5, 2002. It was later determined that the shooter was Father Ryan Erickson.
My wife and I visited Colorado last week and enjoyed some great weather while hiking in the Colorado Rockies. What made the trip interesting is that we camped with my son Darrin, his wife Jen, and our year-old granddaughter Maddie! We weren’t sure what to expect with a one-year-old, but she was quite the little trooper! No major problems and somehow she seemed to enjoy the time in the car, hiking and visiting a variety of spots on our agenda. We left on a Friday afternoon (June 12) and drove to a campsite near Omaha, Neb., that night.
