River Falls firefighters, EMS and police were called to an area near the intersection of Cascade Avenue and Highway 65 for reports of a semi on fire not long before 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, May 10. AT ablut 10 p.m. Smoke coukd be seen coming from the semi, from across Cascade Avenue. No flames appeared visible at that time. River Falls Police closed the intersection of Cascade and Highway 65 during the incident. More information will be added to this report as it becomes available

After about a year of operating with no bishop, the Catholic Diocese of Superior, which includes Hudson, will soon have a new leader. Pope Francis has appointed The Very Rev. James Powers to be the next bishop of the Diocese of Superior. Powers, a Hammond native, is pastor of the parishes St. Joseph, Rice Lake; St. John the Evangelist, Birchwood; Our Lady of Lourdes, Dobie; and Holy Trinity, Haugen.
Like most kids, Noah Metro celebrated his seventh birthday with a party. This week started off with a bang – lots of them, and not just from Fourth of July fireworks. Many locals were awakened by reverberating claps of thunder in the wee hours of Monday. When they got up in the morning, many residents found a very unpleasant surprise. One of the hardest hit areas was River Falls, which picked up nearly 8 inches of rain. Wedding bells are in the air for Wisconsin same-sex couples. Media reports say many couples have already been married in Madison and Milwaukee, following the decision by federal judge Barbara Crabb who ruled Wisconsin’s ban on gay marriage unconstitutional last Friday. In the midst of the road construction on Wisconsin Highway 65 and Interstate 94 in Roberts, a new gas station has also been under construction. The new Pilot Flying J Travel Plaza opened on Monday, Oct. 22, in Roberts on 70th Avenue near the exchange of I-94 and Highway 65.
The second annual "Petapalooza" is set for Sunday, Sept. 30, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Warren Township Park, near Roberts. For its 10th birthday, Grace Place is inviting people to join a celebration on Sunday, Sept. 30 from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Grace Place is also asking for sponsors for its 10th birthday. According to Grace Place Director Duana Bremer, the shelter has had sponsors for each room in the shelter since it began operation in 2002. However, after 10 years, Bremer said it was time to start a new group of sponsors. According to Bremer, 11 rooms have already been claimed by groups from River Falls, New Richmond, Somerset and Hudson. There are still three bedrooms, and seven other rooms unsponsored.
