He also was previously owner of the Osceola Sun, Stillwater Courier and Scandia Messenger along with his wife. Together they previously founded and published The Old Times newspaper for antiques and collectibles collectors; and Up!, a Christian magazine of hope and encouragement.

A former nursing home in New Richmond could become the new home for Grace Place, a homeless shelter currently operating in Somerset. The former Maple Manor and Deerfield Gables facility, which has been sitting empty since last fall, is being sought by the non-profit organization, according to Duana Bremer, administrative director with The Salvation Army. "I'm hoping it works out," she said. "I think it will be really good and I hope we get community support." The concept plan for the facility is on the agenda for the Tuesday, May 7, meeting of the New Richmond Plan Commission.
A federal lawsuit to stop progress on the new St. Croix River Crossing project, brought by construction company C.S. McCrossan, has been thrown out of U.S. District Court. McCrossan was the unsuccessful bidder for approach work to be done on the Minnesota side of the river.
A capacity crowd attended Saturday morning's St. Croix County land auction at Gibby's Lanes in New Richmond. Most of the approximately 300 people at the event were observers, as only 32 bidding numbers were issued prior to the start of the auction. But the drama was high as auctioneer Barry Hager opened up the bidding.
