Judge Eric J. Lundell differed from the recommendations of the prosecution and handed down a prison sentence for Elise D'Lynn Will of Hammond Thursday morning in a child abandonment conviction. "The public should be put on notice this is not acceptable," said Lundell and sentenced Will to three years in prison and seven years extended supervision. Prosecutor Frank Collins recommended 90 days in jail and a three year probation period.
My colleague Meg Heaton in a recent column wrote about her visit to "1968", the exhibit at the Minnesota History Center and her reflections of that turbulent year from a teenager's point of view. A man facing felony charges in connection with a scuffle with jail deputies last week made an appearance in St. Croix County Circuit Court Tuesday morning, Jan. 17. Charges of battery to law officers, assault by a prisoner, resisting an officer, escape and bail jumping, were filed Jan. 10 against Shane Michael Kringen, 38, whose most recent address was listed as the Lino Lakes prison in Minnesota. A man led Minnesota and Wisconsin sheriff's deputies on a chase in a reported stolen car Thursday morning and remained at large in the early afternoon. St. Croix County Sheriff John Shilts said Loren H. Phillips, 43, was the alleged driver of a stolen car taken from 787 Pine Ridge Terrace, town of Troy. The car was reported headed into Minnesota, and Washington County authorities located it. They gave chase back into Wisconsin where the vehicle crashed near County Road V and 150th Street in the town of St.
A former Hudson liquor store manager has been convicted of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars while on the job. Nathan Michael Dusek, 38, Knapp, who began working at Chicone's Liquors in 1994 and later became manager, pleaded no contest to one count of felony theft in a business setting Thursday afternoon in an agreement that included dismissal of a felony theft by false representation charge and a pledge to significantly contribute to restitution. A pre-sentence investigation was ordered by Judge Scott R. Needham who set a sentencing hearing for May 4 at 3 p.m.
The road to a consolidated and updated recycling and solid waste ordinance got a little longer after the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors tabled the issue Tuesday morning. The process hit a snag when Supervisor Linda Luckey said she had concerns about a portion of the ordinance and offered her written amendment to the section on inspections.
