Life passes in phases, for John Burman graduation from high school was the end of one phase and he leaped right in to the next one -- a hitch with the Marines that started in July of 2006. "I didn't know what to do at that point," said Burman, "The Marine Corps sounded like a good idea, so I signed up." A 2006 Hudson High School graduate, Burman is near the end of his four-year commitment to the U.S. Marine Corps, which included tours of duty in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
Last weekend a local landmark opened for another season. Badlands Sno-Park first opened its hills to the public in December of 1969. Forty years later the Kinney family is still offering fun for the whole family at affordable prices. The 2009-2010 season started on Saturday. "Bernard always talked about how every neighbor came over to toboggan on this hill when he was young," said Peggy Kinney, of a time before World War II.
St. Croix County District Attorney Eric Johnson hosted the awards ceremony of his 18th annual Stop Drug and Alcohol Abuse Poster Contest at the Hudson High School Auditorium Monday evening. The contest was open to all students in grades 4-7 in St. Croix County. "This year we received over 1,400 posters from kids throughout the county," said Johnson. "Fifteen people from the community gave their time and energy to judge the posters.
