Forecasters now say up to 18-inches of snow could fall by tonight in parts of northwest Wisconsin. Ellsworth already had 14 inches by early this morning, close to 11-inches fell near Hayward and nine inches at River Falls. Ashland had almost eight inches of snow this morning after it was 82-degrees in that city on Tuesday. Strong northerly winds prevented Minnesota's Twin Cities from getting the heavy snows it expected.
The St. Croix County Sheriff's Department was investigating an apparent turkey hunting accident Tuesday morning in the town of Somerset. Jerry Cusick, 53, Stillwater, a Washington County, Minn., Sheriff's Commander, was shot by another hunter when he was scouting a turkey hunting area near the 1900 block of 80th Street, the sheriff said. Cusick was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. The sheriff said the call came in to deputies at 7:24 a.m. April 30. Cusick, a 28-year veteran officer, was listed in good condition.
Trinity Academy is set to begin construction on an expansion that will add a second story to its school, grades pre-school through eighth grade, for the upcoming 2013-14 school year. After years of debate, work has finally begun on a new four-lane bridge from the Hudson area into Minnesota. Minnesota's Department of Transportation says dock walls are being built to accommodate the construction equipment that will help install the foundations for the new bridge over the St. Croix River. Steel panels are also being installed to provide docking facilities for barges.
The Green Bay Packers rewarded quarterback Aaron Rodgers with a contract extension on Friday, April 26. According to NFL.com, the five-year deal is worth $110 million. The contract is the richest in NFL history, shattering Joe Flacco's six-year, $120.6 million contract. Rodgers will earn $62 million in the first three years and $40 million this season, with his $22 million average topping Flacco's annual salary of $20.1 million. Rodgers is entering his ninth season with the Packers after being selected 24th overall in the 2005 NFL Draft.
While Wisconsin lawmakers consider half a dozen bills introduced to crack down on drunken driving in the state, agencies that would have to deal with implementing the changes are talking about the cost. The agencies say the state would have to spend about $250 million as it sends thousands of more people to jail.
With an April like this where winter is refusing to leave, Minnesota farmers are struggling with being able to plant, much less harvest, their crops. However 10th Street Farm and Market, operated in Afton by mother-daughter team Lisa and Hallie Talbott, hasn't had trouble. In fact they've been harvesting since the end of February, thanks to their greenhouses. "The growing season here in Minnesota is very short," Lisa said.

A Christian celebration of the National Day of Prayer is planned in Hudson Thursday, May 2 at 7 p.m. at Christ Center Assembly, 810 Northview Dr. (near County UU and Jacobs Lane). The event is non-denominational and free to the public. "Our nation, state and counties face new challenges every year; elected officials from the Hudson area, along with the public, are invited to this prayer event," said organizer Chaplain Tim Sackett.
