The St. Croix Valley Chapter of The Prairie Enthusiasts invites the public to explore local prairies during the Prairie Days event on Saturday, Sept. 7, beginning at 9 a.m. “This is the first year The Prairie Enthusiasts has hosted this event and our local St. Croix Valley Chapter is excited to share our love for native grasslands with the public,” Ginny Gaynor, event chair, said. “This endangered ecosystem is our rain forest and they are right in our backyards.” A schedule of the day is below.

The School District of Hudson resumes classes Tuesday, Sept. 3, and this means a time of adjustment for not only students and parents but all citizens. It is time to take a look at routines and procedures so everyone can enjoy a safe year of school. District officials are expecting student numbers over the 5,600 mark as classes resume. The obvious change for students and parents is a return to the school routine that includes classes, transportation to school, homework, after-school activities and more. Parents and students are usually able to make the readjustment quickly.
The third annual St. Croix Petapalooza will be held noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 15 at Hoffman Park in River Falls
The Hudson Rotary Club awarded its first “Unsung Hero” award to community volunteer, Glenn Kees at the annual Rotary golf event Aug. 5. Kees received an honorary Rotary Paul Harris Fellow Award as well as a financial donation in his name to an organization of his choice.
The Wisconsin Working Stock Dog Association is bringing its 28th annual Labor Day stock dog trial to Hudson Aug. 30-Sept. 2. The sheep herding competition will feature some of the country’s best stock dogs and dog handlers. The judge is 11-time USBCHA National Champion, Alasdair MacRae of Vichy, Mo. The event is open to the public at Badlands Sno-park, 772 Kinney Road. Hours are Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Monday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Over 80 dogs and handlers from seven states will compete at the Badlands Sheep Dog trial.

Hudson-based NETworks Youth Ministries’ summer mission trip, Mishpack, brought 50 students and leaders to Bozeman, Mont., for the last two weeks of July. The first week students worked alongside Habitat for Humanity.
