In terms of business, what's good for Wisconsin is good for Minnesota, and both states have a lot to offer the world, said Gov.
In a few months, child support checks will be a thing of the past in Wisconsin. Instead, parents who receive court-ordered child support will have the money deposited directly into their checking accounts or credited to debit cards. Among the first to see the change are families in St. Croix County, as they and families in Jefferson County participate in a pilot program. On Sept. 12, 71 St. Croix child support payments came in and became the first to be flipped to debit cards, said Child Support Administrator Katy Kapaun. From that day on, all support payments received for St.
Perhaps a man can't serve two masters, but can he serve two committees? The answer, at least in St. Croix County government, is maybe. The question of whether Casey Swetlik can serve as both director of the St. Croix County Emergency Communications Center and as the county's chief medical examiner still hasn't been answered clearly. The County Board voted last week to amend its rules to say department heads shall have only one job with the county and report to only one supervising committee.
Although Christian Community Home of Hudson has pulled out of the running, two other businesses have shown preliminary interest in taking over the St. Croix County Nursing Home. Tuesday morning the County Board voted unanimously to appoint a new committee to work with interested businesses, hold open meetings and involve New Richmond city representatives until and if permission is given to pursue negotiations in closed session.
A proposal to negotiate with the Hudson Area Library Foundation for an option to buy a parcel on Government Center property was rejected by the St. Croix County Board last week. The motion to appoint a committee to negotiate "for an option or some other reservation of right to acquire a parcel of land on the Government Center property for a new library building," failed on a 13-17 vote during the board's Aug.
HUDSON -- Next year St. Croix County residents will pay an extra $10 when they renew their car's registration. The new tax was approved Tuesday on a 19-11 vote of the County Board. A motion to delay County Board action until after an April referendum failed on a 9-21 vote. The fee will be collected by the state, along with its annual registration fee, which is now $55. About 70,000 cars and small trucks are registered in St. Croix, so the county fee will bring in about $700,000 a year.
After about an hour of discussion Tuesday, the St.
A three-level addition to St. Croix County's Government Center to provide space for the Health and Human Services Department, courts and storage would cost between $9.2 million and $11.3 million, according to a consultant. During a Finance Committee meeting last Thursday, Bob Brown of Ayres Associates presented preliminary drawings and estimates for a building that would have 31,607 square feet at basement level and the same amount on each the first and second floor.
The reports range from a high profile case in which an accountant stole more than $150,000 from an elderly widow, to a call from a person worried about her neighbor's hygiene. The term "elder abuse" covers a lot of territory, but most often it's a case of a family needing help with simple basic needs, according to Pierce County Office on Aging Supervisor Kathy Hass. By the end of July, the Pierce County Office on Aging had received 11 reports of suspected elder neglect or abuse.
St. Croix County's Finance Committee is recommending that the County Board appoint a committee to work with Hudson library representatives to develop a proposal to reserve county-owned land for a new library. Although no decision has been made on selling any of the open land around the St.
