GLENWOOD CITY — A Tuesday night fire on Tuesday night destroyed an unheated pole building at Misty Meadows Wood Products, 751 Seventh St., on the southeast side of the village. Firefighters were alerted to the blaze just after 7 p.m. and flames were showing with the first unit arrived, according to a radio transmission with St. Croix County Dispatch. Chief Greg Holden quickly requested mutual aid assistance from United Fire Woodville and Hammond, Roberts-Warren, Hudson and New Richmond.

A Minnesota man died in a two-vehicle accident in heavy fog late Monday morning about a mile south of Interstate 94 near Roberts. Gordon E. Cariveau, 74, of Oronoco, Minn. died in the accident. St. Croix County authorities said James E. Peuse, 81, of Eau Claire, was driving eastbound in a 2009 Ford Edge when he failed to stop at a sign at Highway 65 and struck a southbound 2002 Ford Econoline van driven by Gordon E. Cariveau, 74, of Oronoco, Minn. The van entered the west ditch and rolled several times before coming to rest on its roof in a nearby field.
MENOMONIE -- A pedestrian was struck and killed late Sunday evening on I-94 on the east side of Menomonie but the man's identity hasn't been released. The State Patrol was notified of a possible semi- versus pedestrian crash near Mile 43 at 12:40 p.m. Officers responded and found the body of a man, still in an eastbound traffic lane. The name of the truck driver was not released either. The crash remains under investigation. Menomonie Police and fire units assisted, along with Dunn County sheriff's deputies. A dinner-hour police chase involving a stolen car ended Monday evening with the suspect being wrestled to the ground in the backyard of a Roberts home, seconds after he'd burst into a stranger's house and ran out a rear patio door. David J.
