From 4:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 31 St. Croix County will host an open house at the St. Croix County Government Center, 1101 Carmichael Road, Hudson. This open house will provide attendees the opportunity to learn more about the County Outdoor Recreation Plan. There will be a short presentation at 7 p.m.
This past Thursday, July 5, I was on a mission to purchase a very specific item from a specialty store. I found a parking spot a block away and I, a 78-year-old woman, managed to do a fairly decent job of parallel parking in spite of the crick in my neck and the cars passing kind of fast and kind of close. So I got out of the car and then was faced with the parking meter. The meter seemed conventional (old), but I needed a credit card. Well, I have one of those. I just couldn't figure it out. How do I pay from my phone? I hate to appear confused!
Two weeks ago I was in Houston, Texas, with 25 of our youth for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America National Youth Gathering. Over 30,000 youth from across the United States attended. The conference theme, "This Changes Everything," shaped the activities, speakers, music and small group conversations. As I reflect now on our time at the conference, I wonder how much of an impact Christ makes on our lives. As children of God, how much have we changed? Does knowing Jesus paid the price for our sins free us from holding onto past mistakes?

With obesity on the rise, the risk of Type 2 diabetes is increasing in adults. Local residents worried they might be at risk for diabetes can take control by registering for a Diabetes Prevention Program. People who are at greatest risk for diabetes are overweight with a body mass index (BMI) greater than 25 and have been told they have pre-diabetes or blood sugar that is "a little high." The good news is that you can prevent diabetes with a few lifestyle changes — and this program can help. This program is not suitable for people who already have diabetes.
President Trump admires dictators like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un. They have complete control of their people and government. Trump is turning Democrats and Republicans against one another with his rallies, lies and tweets. We are being pulled into his madness. He now has control of the Supreme Court and will continue to appoint judges to gain further control of the justice system of the United States.
I've never understood the phrase "revenge is a dish best served cold." I mean I understand the logic behind the statement — that you want to be cold and mean to someone when you are enacting your revenge on them — but as far as the actual phrase is concerned I don't think it makes much sense.
Wisconsin LRB-2457, a bill worth $2.4 billion in economic activity and 18,000 new jobs in a single year alone, would have legalized marijuana for medical and recreational use. The bill failed. Now here in St. Croix County, we have a pending resolution on the August ballot. It will undoubtedly take the vocal will of the people to bring the Green Rush to Wisconsin. Here's why I like it:
As a nurse practitioner, if a patient threatened violence, I was required to notify the local police and to notify the individual to whom the treat had been made. Why should I hold a patient accountable but not another individual who is threatening someone or encouraging to be violent?
