It's a mother, daughter affair at the newly-opened Kudos in Hudson. Located off Dominion Drive, the home and fashion shop is run by mother, daughter team Sue and Carly Sutheimer.

The store offers a variety of items, including apparel, home decor both large and small, furniture, accessories, a garden center and more.

"Just kind of a place you can stop in and find something for yourself or a gift for someone else," Sue Sutheimer said.

The two make a good team running the place since its opening this month. Sue Sutheimer takes on the home decor and day-to-day management, while Carly Sutheimer works to find the fashion and larger pieces.

They both serve as consigners for the store, along with 10 others that fill the place with all its goods.

Though new to Hudson, the store comes with a wealth of experience behind it. Sue Sutheimer first started in retail eight years ago when she was looking for something new to fill her time.

"My kids had all left home," she said.

She rented a space for her first store in Baldwin, known originally as Restore and Restyle. There she focused on finding and repurposing items.

After Baldwin, Sue Sutheimer made her way to River Falls, working with her sister who, along with partners, operated 125 on Main. Sutheimer was there for a while, when she decided she wanted to own her own store.

The only question was where she wanted to do it.

Her daughter Carly led her to Hudson, and the two opened Kudos together. Sue Sutheimer said the town is a logical fit and good location to serve her previous clients, and draw in new ones as well.

"I've always thought this was a nice area," she said.

Between her previous store experience, Sue Sutheimer has also hosted pop ups and garage boutiques. Now she's pleased to own her own store, and her experience means she's not intimidated.

"I'm calling it my creative retirement job," she said.

The best part for Sue Sutheimer is the people. She enjoys watching them find that perfect item, that they may or may not have been looking for.

"It's fun to see them find something they're so happy to have found," she said.

She invites guests to share photos of the items purchased, to see where they ended up in their homes or how they're used.

That happiness that her customers find is what drives Sue Sutheimer.

"I'm always looking for something new and exciting to bring to the store for my customers," she said.

Kudos is open Thursday through Sundays at 809 Dominion Drive.
