Big Band Experience at The Phipps
Shaun Johnson Big Band Experience will perform in concert on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at The Phipps Center for the Arts, sponsored by Hudson Neighbors magazine.
The eight-member ensemble is a rare newcomer to traditional pop by fusing a big band spirit with an inventive edge, riskier than Bublé and more modern than Sinatra. Johnson's compositions have been an integral part of more than two million independently sold albums. He has conducted hundreds of high school and collegiate vocal master classes and has performed more than 2,500 shows.
Johnson is an Emmy award-winning crooner and lead singer of the internationally known vocal group Tonic Sol-fa. He has entertained with Jay Leno, been featured in Newsweek, and was seen across the country in the Shaun Johnson Big Band Experience's first PBS television special, "The Spirit of the Season."
The band consists of Aaron Moe, alto and soprano saxophone and clarinet; Ronny Loew, tenor saxophone; Jeff Carver, trumpet and flugelhorn; Dave Stamps, trombone; Theo Brown, piano; Jim Biersma, bass; and David Stanoch, percussion.
To listen to the band, go to www.bigbandexperience.com. Tickets are $28 for adults and $21 for students of any age. Side stage seating has been added to this performance. Reservations may be made by contacting The Phipps ticket office at 715-386-8409.
