The public is invited to attend a Masterworks concert presented by the Hudson High School Chamber Choir and the River City Chorale Ensemble Singers at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Hudson High School Auditorium.

The Chamber Choir, an auditioned mixed choir of junior and senior students, will perform "Nyon Nyon" by Jake Runestad, Michael Engelhardt's arrangement of the Medieval Latin song "Gaudete, and the inspirational "I'll Be on My Way," composed by Shawn Kirchner.

The Ensemble Singers, an adult auditioned choir with members from Hudson, the St. Croix Valley and the Twin Cities, will perform Runestad's "Ner Ner,"

Matthew Brown's arrangement of the 1980's Cyndi Lauper pop classic, "True Colors," and Eriks Esenvalds "Trinity Te Deum," a jubilant and uplifting hymn of praise.

The Chamber Choir and Ensemble Singers will come together to perform the masterwork "Lux: The Dawn From On High," written by 21st century composer, Dan Forrest, and will be joined by a full orchestra.

"Lux", translated as "light" in Latin, consists of five moments. The opening movement, "Illuminaire," offers the promise of future light and the hope of dawn. "Lux in Tenebris" portrays light shining in, and overcoming, the darkness. "The Sun Never Says" uses the sun as a sign of love that lights the world and the jazz-influenced setting of "Gloria in Excelsis" portrays the nativity story as the light in the world's collective sky. The final movement, "Creator of the Stars of Night," presents an ancient evening hymn that provides closure and unity between the multiple facets of light portrayed in the moments.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and can be purchased online at www.therivercitychorale.org or at www,hudsonraiders.org

The Chamber Choir and the Ensemble Singers are conducted by Andrew Haase, Director of Choral Activities at Hudson High School and Artistic Director of the River City Chorale. Jodell Krause is the accompanist for both groups.
