St. Croix Crossing to open Aug. 2 with ceremony

After decades of planning and several years of construction, the St. Croix Crossing bridge will officially open with a dedication ceremony 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, on the west Minnesota end of the new bridge.

The bridge will replace the old Stillwater lift bridge and connect Oak Park Heights, Minn., with St. Joseph, Wis.

No public parking will be available at the dedication site, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, but shuttles will be provided from nearby locations.

In Wisconsin, a shuttle will leave the Somerset School District campus starting at 7:30 a.m. In Minnesota, shuttles will leave starting at 8 a.m. from Fury Motors at the corner of Osgood Avenue and Highway 36, Stillwater Middle School at 523 W. Marsh St., and Stillwater Area High School, 5701 Stillwater Blvd.

The New Richmond Chamber of Commerce will have three buses for chamber members who wish to attend the event. The buses will leave from the north side parking lot of Gibby's Lanes at 8 a.m. To get a ticket, contact the chamber at 715-246-2900 or

A post-ribbon cutting celebration will be held at Gibby's from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in honor of John Soderberg for his efforts to make the bridge a reality.
