Fox Valley couple accused of child neglect after appearance on Super Nanny
A Fox Valley couple is accused of child neglect after their family was featured this week on the ABC show Super Nanny.
Brittany Chapman, 17, of Kaukauna and her sister Mariah, 15, were seen at their wits' end trying to care for their three brothers ages 5, 5 and 3 - all while doing household chores and going to school online.
Viewers questioned why parents Glenn and Sara Chapman weren't more involved.
A spokesperson for the program said it was the first time parents did not call Super Nanny Jo Frost to help get unruly youngsters in line.
The Appleton Post-Crescent said the show's message boards were filled in minutes by concerned viewers. Some said they reported the Chapmans to the state.
Sara's brother, Jon Gruetzmacher, said the couple cannot legally reply because they agreed not to talk to the media without ABC's permission.
He said the family has gotten vicious e-mails and Sara's so loving he couldn't imagine her being neglectful.
Gruetzmacher said the show created an unfair portrait of the family.
The teens went back to a regular high school after the show was taped in June.
Michelle Weinberger-Burns, Outagamie County human service manager, says edited film clips are not enough to prove child abuse. She says those allegations require a more intimate knowledge of the family.
