Construction on Wisconsin Highway 29 from Prescott to River Falls will start May 10.

The project includes replacing the pavement, rehabilitating Greenwood Valley Creek Bridge, improving various intersections and installing rumble strips.

Monarch Paving Co. of Amery is the prime contractor.  During construction, Highway 29 will remain open between U.S. Highway 10 and County F until mid-July, but starting Monday, Highway 29 will be closed to through-traffic from County F to Cemetery Road.

The details

The project includes:

From US 10 to the County QQ south junction:

Removing and replacing existing pavement.

  • Removing and replacing culvert pipes at multiple locations.

  • Removing and replacing existing guardrail.

From County QQ south junction to Cemetery Road in River Falls:

  • Removing and replacing existing pavement.

  • Replacing culverts, guardrail and 3-foot paved shoulders with 5-foot paved shoulders.

  • Installing centerline and edge line rumble strips. That also means installing guardrail and advanced warning signs at spot locations.

  • Rehabilitating the bridge over Greenwood Valley Creek.

  • Modifying three intersections: County E -- changing the bypass lane to a dedicated; left-turn lane; County FF -- rebuilding the intersection to add left-turn lanes for eastbound and westbound Highway 29 traffic and a right-turn lane for westbound Highway 29 traffic, plus reconfiguring the channelizing island for right turns from southbound County FF; Cemetery Road -- widening the southeast radius for truck movement.

Access will be maintained for properties located along the length of each project, but temporary driveway closures will be necessary during parts of the construction process. WisDOT will contact homeowners and businesses in advance before temporarily closing any driveway.

At least one 12-foot wide gravel surface will be provided for local traffic.

Pedestrians will be detoured during box culvert work near 805th Avenue in River Falls.

Construction is scheduled for completion in late September. The schedule is dependent on favorable weather conditions and construction progress.
