Margaret M. Lansing Bettendorf

Margaret Mary Lansing Bettendorf, age 100 of Hudson, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2018 at the Christian Community Home in Hudson, days after her 100th birthday.

Margaret was born on February 21, 1918 in Spring Valley, the daughter of John and Edith (Patterson) DuBoe. She attended Holy Angels Parochial School in Minneapolis prior to graduating from St. Joseph Academy in St. Paul. She received on the job training at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Paul, beginning a long and rewarding career as a nurse. In 1941, she was united in marriage to Harold Lansing. This union was blessed with four children. Together, they owned and operated the Ellsworth Nursing Home for several years. Harold would precede her in death in 1973. She continued working as a nurse for Miller Hospital; commonly known as United Hospital today. In 1977, Margaret married Joseph Bettendorf; himself a widower with two sons. Joseph too would later precede her in death in 1987.

From the young age of 8, Margaret was playing the church organ for masses in St. Paul, and later served as church organist for St. Francis Catholic Church in Ellsworth and St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hudson. She enjoyed playing euchre and cribbage with friends and family, and loved the outdoors. Margaret belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary Club.

Margaret is survived by her children Mary Kay Brunkow, Robert (Katherine) Lansing, J. Michael (Pat) Lansing, and Lynn (Gary) Schneider; step sons, Joseph (Helen) Bettendorf, and Michael (Karen) Bettendorf; 14 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Harold Lansing and Joseph Bettendorf; her parents; son-in-law, Cliff Brunkow; and grandson-in-law, Kevin Wakefield.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1500 Vine St., Hudson. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial at the St. Francis Cemetery in Ellsworth. In lieu of flowers, memorial are preferred to the Christian Community Home of Hudson, Adoray Hospice, or St. Patrick Catholic Church. Margaret's family would like to thank the staff at the Christian Community Home and Adoray Hospice for their wonderful care and support.
