Hudson Library Notes: Summer Reading program camps

Summer Reading at the library has officially started! Blast off into space, learn about writing, travel back to the early days of Wisconsin, and experience the wizarding world of Harry Potter!

We have something for everyone so come on down to the library for an unforgettable summer.

Space Camp: This is a five-day event that explores all things related to space. Kids can assemble rovers, learn about planting on Mars, assemble model rockets, and much more. It will run 2-4 p.m. June 24-28. You can register at the youth services desk.

Writing Camp: This five-day camp runs 2-4:15 p.m. July 15-19 and is sure to be a treat. Kids will join a local author for this camp aimed at translating young writers' ideas into stories. Explore your imagination as you are guided through key concepts of writing, such as character, setting, voice and plot. As an added bonus we'll devote a day to screenwriting! Best suited for ages 12+. Register at the youth services desk.

History Camp: Pioneer Wisconsin! The St. Croix County Historical Society is partnering with the library for this brand new history camp about settling Wisconsin. The camp will be very hands-on with crafts, cooking, games and activities. It runs from July 29 - Aug. 2. Best suited for ages 8-12. Register and get a permission slip at the youth services desk.

STEAM Camp: From Aug. 5-9 kids can explore all sorts of STEAM-related (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) activities, including crushed-chalk moon art, wind tunnel testing, egglanders and more! Best suited for grades 3-6. Register and get a permission slip at the youth services desk.

Harry Potter Camp: Join us on a magical adventure into the world of Harry Potter. There will be a sorting ceremony, wizarding classes, butterbeer brewing, a quidditch tournament and more! We will have two sessions to include as many people as possible. The first is Aug. 12-16 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The second is Aug. 19-23 from 5-7 p.m. The camp is best suited for grades 3-6. Register and get a permission slip at the youth services desk.

A special thanks to the community members who donate to the Hudson Area Public Library Foundation. The foundation's financial support makes these camps free to the community.
