Six Hudson youth traveled to the Alliant Energy Center in Madison to participate in the Wisconsin Wrestling Federation  Kids Folkstyle State Wrestling Championships, with eighth-grader Isac Schindler bringing home a state title and third-grader Jacob Hansen winning a fourth place trophy.

"How many third-graders get to wrestle in front of 8,000 fans in an arena with 16 full sized mats?" Hudson coach Chris Hansen said. "It was not overwhelming at all but was certainly awe-inspiring."

Schindler brought home Hudson's first state title in a number of years by defeating a defending state champion in the finals; the same athlete he had to beat in the finals at the regional two weeks ago.

Schindler had three pins leading up to the finals and then beat Austin Knopps of Whitehall 3-1.

Third-grader Hansen was Hudson's other place-winner. He placed fourth in the state, losing to the same athlete in the quarterfinals and then again in the third place match.

Hansen won four matches, three by pin and one by major decision, to reach the third place match. He beat athletes from Elkhorn, Shawano, Wisconsin Rapids and Holmen before losing to Ian Kaczmarowski of De Soto.

Two Hudson athletes won a match but ultimately did not place. Eighth-grader Seth Haroldson beat a Pewaukee wrestler while fifth-grader Leo Draveling beat an Oak Creek wrestler. Both Haroldson and Draveling then lost two bouts and finished in the top 12.

"Logan Hatch and Jacob Anderson each went 0-2 on the day but wrestled excellent and hope to return to state next season," Hansen said.
