Baseball: Raiders fall to Rice Lake in extras

Hudson rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the score but Rice Lake scored three times in the top of the eighth to escape with an 8-5 victory over the Raiders Tuesday, May 14, at Grandview Park.

Ben Gilbert tripled in Owen Anderson and scored on a single by Ryan Rubin in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score 5-5, but Rice Lake cobbled four singles and a fielder’s choice into three runs in the top of the eight to take an 8-5 lead. The Raiders went down one-two-three in their final at-bat to slip to 1-8 in BRC play, 4-11 overall. Rice Lake improved to 2-8 in the conference, 7-10 overall. The two teams will meet again Thursday, May 16, in Rice Lake.

Rubin had an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning and Teddy Donna singled in two runs in the sixth to give Hudson a 3-1 lead but Rice Lake scored four times in the top of the seventh before the Raiders rallied to tie the score.

Rubin finished with three hits and two RBI in the game and Gilbert and Donna had two hits each while Tyler Stubbendick added a double.

Anderson started on the mound and allowed five runs, three earned, on eight hits with five strikeouts and one walk in 6 1/3 innings. Jack Erickson was tagged with the loss after giving up three earned runs on four hits in the final inning-and-a-third.
