Despite jumping out to early leads in both games last week, the Raider girls basketball team was only able to post one win. It was a big one, however, as they handed Menomonie their second Big Rivers Conference loss of the season while evening their own conference record at 2-2.
Hudson took a 10-3 lead Tuesday, Dec. 19, in Menomonie, and went on to shoot 89 percent from the free throw line in a 57-48 victory. Friday, Dec. 21, at home against D.C. Everest, the Raiders scored the first seven points of the game and were clinging to a 35-32 lead at the break before going cold in the second half of a 62-53 loss.
Hudson, now 4-5 overall, will compete in the Marshfield Holiday Tournament this week against the host Tigers Wednesday, Dec. 27 and Wausau West Thursday, Dec. 28.
Last Tuesday at Menomonie, three Raiders scored in double figures and Hudson shot 16-of-18 from the free throw line, including 6-of-6 in the final minute, to post a 57-48 victory over the Mustangs (6-4, 3-2).
Shayla Wallin led the Raiders with 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds while adding four assists, three steals and three blocked shots. Sophia Jonas was 3-for 4 from three-point range and finished with 11 points and Audrey Hatfield added 10 points, six rebounds and one block while Ty Huber scored seven points.
Wallin hit 6-of-7 of her free throws while Hatfield was 4-for-4.
Friday at home against D.C. Everest (7-3), Hudson led by seven out of the gate and by three at halftime but the Evergreens outscored the Raiders 30-18 in the second half on their way to a 62-53 win.
Wallin had 19 points, four rebounds, three steals and three blocks in the loss while Hatfield was the only other Raider in double figures with 15 points. Jonas and Kaiya Sundeen finished with 16 points each while Huber had four points and a team-high five assists.
Following this week's holiday tournament in Marshfield the Raiders will host Rice Lake (7-1, 3-1) Saturday, Jan. 6, at 7:15 p.m.
