Cross Country: Raiders sweep Rice Lake Invitational

Junior Rachel Ball won the girls’ individual title and junior Cale Wimer and senior Jacob Mathes finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the boys’ race, to lead the Raider cross country teams to a team sweep at the Rice Lake Invitational Tuesday, Sept. 11, on the UW-Barron County campus in Rice Lake.

Hudson’s girls dominated the competition, finishing 40 points ahead of second place Osceola with a score of 69, while the boys finished 16 points ahead of Osceola with 109. Twenty-nine teams competed in the boys’ race and 26 in the girls.

Ball won the girls’ race with a time of 19 minutes, 43.7 seconds, while junior Emma Filipiak placed 10th in 21:26.8 and junior Anna Czupryna placed 11th in 21:27.7. Junior Ella Young finished 17th in 21:53.2 and senior Karina Gilson rounded out the Raider’s teams score with a 30th place time of 22:20.8.

Other Hudson finishers included sophomore Alicia Belany in 34th place in 22:31.8 and junior Abbi Faust 64th in 23:37.6.

Wimer led the Raider boys’ with a fifth place time of 17:39.1 while Mathes was right behind in 17:53.4. Junior Noah Lundeen finished 12th with a time of 18:05.3 and junior Adam Tronnes was 30th in 19:05.1 while senior Henry Burns finished 56th in 19:41.1.

Tyler Auge placed 58th with a time of 19:45.6 and sophomore Jack Lewis was 76th in 20:09.2 to round out the Raider lineup.

After hosting the Hudson Invitational Tuesday, Sept. 18, the Raiders will resume training for the prestigious Roy Griak INvitational hosted by the University of Minnesota Saturday, Sept. 29.
