Raider golfers finish 3rd in BRC

Paige Hillman and Lauren Gertschen both earned All-Big Rivers Conference honors and the Raider girls' golf team moved up to spots from last year's final standings to finish third in the BRC this year after the BRC Tournament Friday, Sept. 21, in Menomonie.

"I'm very proud to say that this year's team finished third for the season overall behind River Falls and Eau Claire Memorial, compared to finishing fifth last season," coach Tom Holland said. "Improvement has been our focus year over year and that's what this team has accomplished. Thank you to all the girls who have worked very hard and continue to work hard."

Hillman fired an 86 at the BRC Tournament to place third overall while Gertschen's round of 100 was good for 10th place. Ali Wefel added a score of 103 and Makayla Shilts had 117 while Courtney Dummer shot 118.

River Falls clinched the conference title with a first place score of 372 while Eau Claire Memorial was second with 377, Menomonie took third with 394 and Hudson was fourth with 406. Hudson's play in dual matches this season allowed the Raiders to jump ahead of Menomonie and finish in third place overall.

The Raiders will compete in the WIAA Division 1 regional Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Nemadji Golf Course in Superior. The sectional tournament is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 1, at New Richmond.
