Gymnasts win Simley Invite

The Raider gymnastics team kicked off the season on a high note by taking first place at the Simley Invitational with team score of 134.35 Saturday, Dec. 1, in Inver Grove Heights.

Paige Hillman took home the all-around title with a total score of 36.5 after winning the vault, uneven bars and balance beam, including a personal best score of 9.4 on the bars. Paige Hillman gave the Raiders a sweep of the individual events with a first place score of 9.1 on the balance beam, while Caroline Robey was third in the all-around with a total of 33.55 and Amber Robey was fourth with 30.9.

The Raiders will host Eau Claire North/Memorial in the first Big Rivers Conference dual of the season this Thursday, Dec. 6, at 6:30 p.m. in the new high school gym.

Bob Burrows has been sports editor at the River Falls Journal since 1996 and at the Hudson Star-Observer since 2009. Prior to joining the Journal, Burrows served as sports editor with Ledger Publications in Balsam Lake, Wis.
