Boys Hockey: Raiders tripped up by ECN

The seventh-ranked Raider boys' hockey team outshot Eau Claire North 47-18 but went just 1-for-7 on the power play while giving up a pair of special teams goals in a 4-3 loss to the unranked Huskies Tuesday night, Dec. 11, at Hobbs Ice Arena in Eau Claire.

Carter Maack scored on Hudson's first power play opportunity of the night late in the first period to tie the score, 1-1, and Sam Ross gave the Raiders a 2-1 lead six minutes into the second period. But the Huskies got a power play goal late in the second, a shorthanded tally midway through the third, and an empty-netter with 30 seconds remaining to take a 4-2 lead. Cole Danielson scored with three seconds on the clock for Hudson but Eau Claire North won the ensuing faceoff as time expired.

Danielson also picked up assists on Hudson's first two goals along with Payton Hanson and Hunter Danielson.

Eau Claire North spent seven of the last 11 minutes shorthanded but the Raiders couldn't capitalize. The Huskies were whistled for eight penalties in the game for a total of 27 minutes while Hudson had four minutes on two infractions.

The loss dropped Hudson to 2-3 overall, 1-2 in Big Rivers Conference play, while Eau Claire North improved to 3-3-1 overall, 2-0 n the BRC. Hudson will travel to Mahtomedi for a nonconference game Thursday, Dec. 13.
