Girls Hockey: Fusion top Raiders in BRC opener
The eighth-ranked St. Croix Valley Fusion scored three goals in the third period to post a 5-3 victory over No. 6 Hudson in the Big Rivers Conference opener for both teams Thursday night, Dec. 13, im Hudson.
The Raiders took a 3-2 lead on a shorthanded goal by Sydney Hendricks 58 seconds into the third period but St. Croix Valley got a goal from Amber DeLong just before the end of the power play to tie the score.
Madsyon Shew gave the Fusion a 4-3 lead with her first goal of the season at the 4:15 mark of the third and Bella Rasmussen scored less than two minutes later and the Fusion held on to snap a four-game losing streak to Hudson.
Abbie DeLong scored the only goal of the first period to give St. Croix Valley a 1-0 lead before Dani Robson tied it for Hudson 1:04 into the second. Abbie DeLong gave the Fusion the lead right back with her second goal of the game one minute later before Nikki Olund scored for Hudson with three minutes remaining in the period to tie the score again, 2-2.
Hendricks stole the puck at her own blue line while the Fusion were on a power play in the first minute of thee third period and went coast-to-coast to give Hudson its first lead of the game, 3-2, but the Fusion scored the next three goals in a span of just over three minutes to make the final 5-3.
Seeley finished with 22 saves while Hudson goalie Elle Runk made 14.
St. Croix Valley (3-2-0) will host Red Wing Tuesday, Dec. 18 in River Falls while Hudson (2-2-0) will host the fifth-ranked Fox Cities Stars Friday, Dec. 21.
