Boys hockey: Raiders falls to Old Abes

Eau Claire Memorial scored the final three goals of the game to hand Hudson a 4-1 loss in a Big Rivers Conference boys' hockey game Friday, Feb. 8, in Eau Claire.

The Raiders outshot the Old Abes 11-6 in the first period but the game was scoreless until Memorial's Austin Kamitz scored 3 minutes, 31 seconds into the second period.

Hudson tied things up with a power play goal from Peyton Hanson at the 9:53 mark of the second, assisted by Nolan Wagner, but Memorial's Joe Kelly scored on a power play less than two minutes later to give the Old Abes the lead for good. Kelly scored two more goals in the third period to make the final 4-1.

Hudson goalie A.J. Cohen finished with 24 saves as the Raiders outshot the Old Abes 31-28.

Eau Claire Memorial moved into a tie for first place in the Big Rivers Conference with Eau Claire North, both at 9-2-0, while Hudson fell to 7-4 (13-8-1 overall).

The Raiders wrapped up the regular season in Milwaukee against No. 2 ranked University School Saturday, Feb. 9. They earned the No. 2 seed and a first round bye for the postseason and will host either No. 7 Somerset or No. 10 Grantsburg in a WIAA regional final Thursday, Feb. 14, at 7:30 p.m. at Gornick Arena.
