New Richmond High School graduate Ryan Kling, a freshman at Vermillion Community College in Ely, Minn., gained national recognition for his work on the mound recently when he was named the Division III National Pitcher of the Week by the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Kling threw a 3-hit shutout against Northland Community Technical College March 28 at Thief River Falls to earn his first win of the season. In his 7-inning outing, the righthander gave up no walks and struck out 12 batters in his team's 8-0 victory. The performance also earned him MCAC North Division Pitcher of the Week honors.
Kling, a 2019 New Richmond graduate, was a two-time All-Middle Border Conference selection for the Tigers, earning first team all-conference honors as a senior after being named second team as a junior.
In four starts at Vermillion this season, Kling is 1-1 with a 1.86 earned run average and has struck out 36 batters in 29 innings pitched while walking just six.
