Herink repeat All-WIAC pick

UW-River Falls senior Alex Herink of Hudson is a repeat selection to the All-WIAC First Team while classmate Brennan Witt earned honorable mention and senior Devin Buckley was named to the All-Sportsmanship team, the conference announced last week.

Herink led the Falcons in scoring for the second straight season with an average of 15.4 points per game. His 39 three-pointers and 114 free throws were both the most by any Falcon and he was the team's second-leading rebounder with an average of 6.4 per contest.

In his two-year career at UWRF, Herink scored 878 points (15.67 per game), made 82 three-pointers, grabbed 343 rebounds and made 216 free throws. He shot a career 82 percent from the free throw line.

Witt, a Champlin, Minn. native, was the WIAC's top rebounder with an average of 7.5 per game while averaging 12.5 points and shooting a team-high 58.3 percent from the field. He finished his career ranked 10th on UWRF's all-time rebounding list with 483.

Buckley, a Brooklyn Park, Minn. native, fought through injury this season to finish the year ranked second on the team with 47 assists and 24 steals. He was sixth in scoring with 168 points. In his four-year career at UW-River Falls, Buckley scored 757 points, drained 112 three-pointers and 155 free throws.

Bob Burrows has been sports editor at the River Falls Journal since 1996 and at the Hudson Star-Observer since 2009. Prior to joining the Journal, Burrows served as sports editor with Ledger Publications in Balsam Lake, Wis. A native of Bayonne, N.J. and a U.S. Navy veteran, Burrows attended Marquette University before completing his studies at UW-River Falls in 1992.
