Former Hudson Raider Taylor Brinkman, a sophomore on the University of Northwestern women's soccer team, was named the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Defensive Player of the Year after helping the Eagles win the 2018 UMAC championship.

Brinkman anchored an Eagles' back line that allowed just 10 total goals to UMAC opponents this season and went on to record two shutouts en route to the UMAC postseason title and NCAA tournament berth. Brinkman helped the Eagles record a 0.699 goals against average (GAA) and post seven total shutouts in UMAC play. The Eagles also allowed one goal or fewer in 10 of the team's 12 conference games.
