WIAA Softball: Hudson to open playoffs at home; RF on road

Hudson received the No. 5 seed and River Falls the No. 14 seed in the Section 1 softball bracket released Thursday, May 16, by the WIAA.

Hudson will open postseason play Tuesday, May 21, at home against No. 12 seed Wausau East at 5 p.m. while River Falls will travel to No. 3 D.C. Everest. The winner of the Hudson-Wausau East game will advance to play either No. 4 Wisconsin Rapids or No. 13 Menomonie in a regional final Thursday, May 23, at the home of the higher seed while the River Falls-D.C. Everest winner will face either No. 6 Marshfield or No. 11 New Richmond.

Stevens Point earned the No. 1 seed and a first round bye in the 14-team bracket and will play the winner of the regional semifinal between No. 8 Eau Claire North and No. 9 New Richmond, while Superior also earned a bye as the No. 2 seed and will face either No. 7 Chippewa Falls or No. 10 Eau Claire Memorial in the regional finals.

The sectional semifinals are scheduled for Tuesday, May 28 and the sectional title game Thursday, May 30 with the winner advancing to the WIAA State Tournament in Madison June 6-8.
